Ryan emails me last week about this game event or something like that, about wanting to go on Sunday. I reply back and ask him when we are going to the Cat Show to make sure that it doesn't conflict. He says that we will go to the Cat Show on Saturday. Fine by me.
Saturday rolls around and I'm tired in the morning, so I don't get up until noon-ish. I shower kinda late, but more or less am ready to leave the house by 1 or 2 (memory kinda foggy this early in the morning for me). It takes about 20 minutes to get to San Mateo, so I am all set to get there and see the Cat thing being put on specifically by Friskies at 3pm. Ryan isn't ready to go.
If I recall correctly, I don't think I had a good feelin' back and Ryan was feeling lazy, much like myself. So, we nixed the plans for Saturday and said we would go on Sunday. Not a problem... just sheer laziness on our parts.
Sunday morning... I'm awake, showered, ready to go by 12:30 pm. Ryan is sitting and playing Xenosaga: Episode 1 (which is a VERY neat game, thus far), so I ask him when he's ready to save and go.
About that time, Maxine starts doing potty meow. She's already gone today, but ok, we'll see what she's up to. I follow her into the bathroom, since that's the new routine. She pretends like she has to go, but she doesn't go. Then she jumps up on the toilet and sits there, in the poop position, waiting for what seems to be a couple minutes before she goes. She actually hisses while squatting there. I feel really bad for her. She barely poops and then jumps off. I go get her some canned cat food and put it on one of her plates. She sniffs it, and I think she licked it for a nanosecond and then she just squatted over it, doing nothing.
I recall that she threw up earlier that morning, but she hadn't done it more than once. I also recall that Ryan said she did two potty trips while he was awake (and I was still in bed). He said the second one didn't look pleasant (let's just leave it at that). So, all of this combined with not eating her canned cat food meant she was sick and/or not feeling well.
I decided to stay with Maxine instead of going to the Cat Show because, afterall, she's more important to me than seeing a bunch of cats that I don't know. Granted, it was a hard thing to give up, but I think knowing that I was there for Maxine the rest of the day was reason enough.
Some contributing factors to Maxine's one-day illness: she escaped on Saturday night and ran in the back yard where she may or may not have eaten or came into contact with something that made her sick. She was nearly under the patio when we found her, after Ryan, Tim and I all ran out to get her.
Erich wanted me to tell him how the Cat Show went, so I guess I will have to give him this entry's URL. Sad, really, but knowing that Maxine was back to her normal self after an UBER-long nap on Sunday makes me feel much better about my decision. I love Maxine.
