Rain!

June 10, 2002 *

Fifteen days.

Today it rained. I mean RAIN! It was so awesome!

After I heard it start coming down more and more, I decided to get some jeans on, throw on some sandals and go play in the rain! hehe

At first I just stood in the driveway and let the rain hammer down on me. Then I put my arms out, palms up. The rain felt so refreshing. It was cool, massaging as opposed to the hot, muggy feel of the day prior to the rain.

I didn't want to go inside, so I watched the rain pool down to the street, and then join the current heading to the sewer drain. The flow of the rain, the splashes the new droplets made. All so fun to watch.

Some rain went into my eyes and stung a bit (because I wear contacts). I wiped the water away and decided to go for a walk. Ahhh... it was so cool after the sticky heat I'd slept through.

My shirt clung to my shoulders, my sandals had miniature pools in them, and my jeans were starting to sag and get really heavy, but that didn't stop me from standing in the rain... going for a walk.

I followed the current. The water went faster in some areas. It was interesting to see the small eddys. I saw a large clump of debris preventing the water from moving. I decided to walk across the lawn to remove some of it.

As soon as I moved the large clump, the water gently pushed my hand "downstream". It was a neat experience, so I wander along the curb to make sure there were no more clogs. I got to the actual storm sewer drain and saw that there was quite a bit of those little helicopters making the water have to flow around them. I started removing more and more. The water started gushing in! It was a fun sound.

Check me out! I'm helping nature. :)

I rinsed my hand off in a nearby puddle. I wandered back "upstream". There were people in there cars driving down the street, wipers on full speed. It was raining hard! The thunder rumbled my body a few times.

On my walk back home, I played in some puddles. Kicking the water with my sandal. Meeting the resistance of the liquid... fun still. :)

When the lightning became more and more frequent, I decided I should listen to Mom (inside my head telling me to get inside, because it's not safe being outside during a lightning storm). So, I meandered back home, went inside, and here's the funny part...

Since I was sopping from head to toe, I decided to walk directly into the shower. I ended up standing in the shower before I even turned the water on (so as to not make more puddles -- indoors!). Then when the warm spray hit me, it was a nice contrast to the cold uneven-ness of the rain.

This is the funny part, I swear. I was standing in the shower, fully clothed. As I rinsed the debris and little bits of mud off my clothes, I'd take them off. Let me tell you how hard it is to take off SOAKED HEAVY jeans! It's hard. :)

When I took my sandals off, I noticed that the black leather straps had lightly tinted my skin that was immediately underneath! Interesting. Rain or not, stripping in the shower, going from HOT to cool to warm again, it was a great day!

I just hope that the rain expected for later this week is going to be as promising as today's was. :)
