She's aaaall good!

June 30, 2003 *

Let me explain briefly (it's a foreign concept to me, but I think I will give it a shot): Tierna had some swelling under her incision that was somehow not allowing her body to place her fluids properly. She needed to get a wrap to help her body re-adsorb the liquid.

(FYI: I should have a picture coming sooner or later with her in the wrap). Today, is the day - 7-1-03 (quick, huh?): Tierna in her cage.

At first, they put a gauze-type material on her and secured it. She got out of it.

Next they tried something that was for temporary casts (or at least that's what it looked like). It was green and white. She looked like she was wearing a sweater-vest. It was very adorable. They were pretty sure she wasn't going to get out of it because they had observed her in the back before bringing her to the lobby for me.

Dr. Borut said she would still be able to breathe and she could come back tomorrow and get it off. Well, I couldn't stop laughing at how silly she looked. The thing had little arm holes and she seemed so tiny in this bulky "clothing".

We leave the vets and we aren't more than out of the parking space when she starts bucking around in her box. She isn't happy with it and she is determined to "Houdini" her way back out of it, like she had all the other ones that they tried putting on her.

We are about 3 blocks away when I look in on her. She moves furiously and expends all her energy, stops, pants, rests, and then tries it again. She is such a little stubborn girl. About 4 blocks away, she gets out of it, pushing it over her head and smiling proudly. (I swear!) She was probably thinking, "ta-da!"

We turn the car around and walk into the lobby. Other parents were there, hearing of the whole ordeal. When they heard that she got out of it again, the one that she wouldn't be able to get out of, they smiled and laughed.

The vet's was reluctant to use the adhesive tape, but Tierna left them no choice. She had to be taped!

Turns out she needed the bandage on longer than a day, so she wore an ace bandage (at least in color and outer texture) from Tuesday morning to Monday morning; today. I borrowed Tim's digital camera and was able to take a few pictures of her in her little "outfit". I'll post them when they are uploaded.

As far as her staples, she had 9. Now she has none. She is healed up, and her fur is growing back in. She's very happy to be able to clean her entire body again, and be able to scratch any itches. (I had to baby her for the entire first day of the bandage, and she really needed it - she wasn't able to walk very well, until the bandage got some grooves in it).

Seeing her outside of the bandage now, she looks skinnier. I think it slimmed her down, either that, or her fur is more slimming than the bandage-look on her.

Stay tuned for the results of Ryan's Surprise Party... coming soon (or in a few weeks, whichever comes last). :) hehe
