I gotta clean

July 6, 2002 *

I was looking around my apartment when I realized that I still have stuff in boxes from when I moved in March 2001!!! Seriously, I gotta get some of my junk taken care of.

The family rummage sale/reunion is coming up the end of July this year. I am going to go, since I haven't been in the past... I don't even know how many years.... yikes!

I only mention this because it's a perfect time to clean out my apartment. Prior to moving. Prior to the rummage sale. Ta-da!

In addition to having way too many unpacked boxes sitting around in sight, I have boxes of stuff in my HUGE walk-in closet. (I should also mention I have stuff in my Mom's bedroom's walk-in closet. Well... and her front bedroom: aka the guest bedroom). I wish I wasn't so stingy like Tierna. **

Not that holding on to momentos is a bad thing. Holding on to too many mementos is. How do you determine when you cross that line? I think I've come up with an answer... You simply have so much stuff that you couldn't list it if insurance asked you to. Granted, you don't want to get rid of fun things like photos or favorite blankies or the likes, but there has got to be a quota somewhere for how much stuff one person can have, right?

So, little by little I am going to clean up my apartment... again. This time, I'm going to go through old boxes that I haven't touched more than to move them to a different location in the apartment. I'm going to start evaluating what is near and dear and what is just "junk".

That way, I'll hopefully cut down the amount of stuff I have sitting around (that will have to move with me) and I might make a little money on the side. :) I should just hope that the weather will be tolerable enough that I can sit in the living room to do all this "cleaning". (If I'm not in the living room, my slowly shrinking bedroom is going to be overloaded -- the bedroom has A/C).

I think it's a good start, at the very least. I'm willing to part with things. That's more than I've done before.

** stingy like Tierna is my new favorite phrase. If you know me, I try to use it once a day. I wonder if you're the lucky one that'll hear it today!
