Overdue update

November 18, 2004 *

So, in the last few months that I haven't updated, I have had a lot going on. Not all good, but a lot, nonetheless.

During the month of August, I was spending much time house-hunting. Thanks to a wonderful realtor, the ball finally got rolling and we were on our busy way of going from house to house (well, condo to condo). Within a month, I think I saw about 50 different places and we really liked one place, so we made an offer. And when I say "we", I mean Ryan. :) We weren't the only one making an offer and it was pre-emptive, so... long story short, we didn't get the place. The next place we really loved, we got! We made an offer the night after we saw it a second time. We beat out 3 other offers, and voila! we are soon condo-owners!

I guess I should have mentioned that we started looking a bit in July or so, and then we had our offer accepted in August, because we closed September 2nd! So, with a whirlwind of figuring out what to do next, we decided that we REALLY wanted the bathroom more modern and functional.

So the month of September consisted of us looking around for a new tub -- and while we were at it, why not just upgrade and get a jacuzzi. And then we noticed that the pedestal sink just is a waist of space, so we had to search for a new sink too. Then we noticed that we could fit something above the shower (because we have 9 feet high ceilings)... so next thing you know, we have a large order placed for a re-vamped bathroom.

September was the waiting game. I kept making a list of things that had to be done before we moved. The problem with that list was that most things hinged on other things being complete first. So, not much got done that month because of the waiting.

Little did we know that the Landlord and landlady were going to be assholes this month and October. Turns out that Ryan gave them a friendly call at the beginning of September to let them know that we had, indeed, found a place and we were just giving them a "heads-up". They took it as official notice and decided to make our lives a living hell for the next two months.

Traumatizing Teddy started to become the least of my worries as they kept plowing through our apartment showing person and couple after couple. It soon became apparent that they were trying to get TOO MUCH MONEY for the place and that's why they had no takers.

To recap: September -- waiting for bathroom things and getting house-stuff planned. Also, having people trapes (sp?) through our lives and home while we needed to live in it! October came and we gave official notice that were would be out by the end of the month.

The landlord and landlady took this as a new wave of being assy to us! Again with the hordes of people interrupting our lives (and invading the cats' territory) just to dirty up our runner rug and make us constantly clean! Yikes! What am I, a robot?!

So, October consisted of no Halloween costumes and no other major relaxation. Turns out this whole time, our tub that we so desparately wanted to replace was having a delay at the manufacturing plant, and they didn't know when it was going to be ready.

As October was pulling to a close, we found that there was no way we were going to be out by Halloween, so we called up the landlord and told him that we needed an extention. Of course, he got all pissy and didn't know where "this weird behavior was coming from" (his words exactly) and finally conceded that we could have the place until the 15th of November.

Not a moment too soon, because with us being so fed up with the current tub company, we switched and placed a rush order on another tub that would still fit (and would still be a jacuzzi). And it showed up on the 6th -- with them telling us it would take 7 days to install and be functional. The problem now was that they didn't start until the 8th!

So, long November thus far, and we are moved in, but not without still getting hassles from the landlady who claimed the cleaners we hired didn't clean one tiny little spot! Sheesh!

Needless to say, I had a lot of catching up to do, and I'm very excited about some things. For example:

I think that's enough to go on,

Happy idea for today:
not living out of boxes
