A day of the past

My Little Ponies

When I was a child, I had a best friend named Betsy who lived a few blocks away. We would play after school and during the summers with Barbie and My Little Ponies. Today I'm going to talk about My Little Ponies.

I remember saving up my allowance(s) to get a new Pony. Betsy and I would play and play for hours with our Ponies. At one point, she bought a Boutique for the Ponies. She had one of her Ponies own the boutique and ran a business. I remember using pennies and buttons for money.

Certain buttons had more value than others because they were shinier or looked more luxurious. Pennies counted as 5 'regular' buttons and a shiny or pearly button was 10 'regular' buttons.

We started to build a civilization of Ponies with different Ponies being married (even though everyone knows that there were only the Clydesdales that were actually male). We sorta changed that rule and any Pony that was more masculine colored became a male. Since many of my Ponies were more masculine colored than hers, I had the majority of the male Ponies and thus had to "speak" them in a deeper voice.

Some of the couples didn't have children yet, but some did. Since there were smaller versions of some of the "original" Ponies, we had to modify their names so the children wouldn't have the same exact name as their adult counterpart. For example, one adult Pony was named MoonDancer. (We made it male). The child Pony then was named Moonie.

After some time, we developed different businesses for different families to run. For example, Lofty (a yellow Pegasus) taught flying lessons to the children Ponies. Some families were rich and others were not-so-well off. (But we didn't develop welfare or anything like that).

We would create natural disasters to make the community pull together and become one. We also had a war at one point. (There are three different types of Ponies: Normal, Unicorns, and Pegasus). We pitted the 3 sides against each other. No side wanting to give in. I think the Pegasus actually won out even though they were the smallest population.

We never had death, athough when we would get a new Pony, it was immediately accepted into society as if it had always been a part of it, with the only exception being the newborn Ponies. (I think that's what they were called).

Then they came out with what Betsy and I called the "Teenager Ponies". They were thinner than the Normal Ponies. And they only came in Normal. (as in no horn, no wings). Betsy and I immediately had new favorite Ponies. There were 6 of them. We each owned 3. There were 3 different poses that they were in, and I had one twin set, she had another twin set and between the two of us, we had the last set. We actually made them twins even though the hair, body and eye colors were different.

The Teenager Ponies could live on their own. They could live with their families and they could date "adult" males. They were by far, the coolest Ponies ever! They could have their own jobs or they didn't have to work if they didn't want to. They just had all the freedoms. I had really fun with one of my Teenager Ponies named "Dainty". She was a supreme bitch! (Although at that time, we never called her that... she was just mean, rude, and always thought she was better than everyone else). And on the flipside, her twin sister, "Daisy" (I think that's what her name was... it was some flower... I'm just not sure which one) was a big sweety. She always did favors for everyone without ever asking for monetary reward.

Between those two, I had the polar ends and could play whichever one I wanted to when I wanted to. I didn't ALWAYS have to be one or the other. I could play both and have the diverse fun. While, Betsy on the other hand, made two of her Teenager Ponies nice and the third was a bit of a rebel. (well, as much of a rebel as a My Little Pony could be). hehe

I don't know if this was consistant with the cartoons, but our Unicorns had magical powers. Like if they were really healthy and well focused, they could teleport themselves. Some other little tricks were used for the kids, but at this time I can't remember them. Oh well.

Oh, one last thing. Moondancer, a male, remember? Well, he was one of my Ponies, and he had an affair. I had a female named Windy that was his wife, and Betsy had another unicorn female that was Moondancer's old girlfriend. We only came to this conclusion of the affair because Moondancer was one of the original Ponies and the makers of My Little Pony came out with the original Ponies again (but made them children and pearly... like they were from the ocean or something was the kick that they were hyping these "new" ones with). Since I already had Moonie (Moondancer's look-alike child) and they came out with another Moondancer child, we needed to explain it. Since the children didn't look that similiar color-wise, Betsy and I decided that the new pearly unicorn Moondancer was going to be from some other mother. At that point in our lives, we didn't understand things like affairs, but we understood that some kids could have a sibling even if they didn't have all the same parents. So, that is the story of the womanizing My Little Pony.

I just wanted to add that part to show a tad of humor. Because looking back at all this, I didn't realize how many life lessons we were learning just by playing. How great it is to have the ability to analyze and still look back with fond memories. :)
