Then he told me that he was a first time bus rider. I told him what he needs to know about when he gets on and whatnot. I asked him why he was going to ride the bus today. He told me that his car was ka-poot. That sparked me. I started yakking with him about cars and little maintenance things and the like.
We probably waited 15 minutes for the bus (because I had nowhere else to go during that time, so I just was going to sit and wait). We talked and talked about cars. Turns out he had Geo Metro some years back. He was a small guy, so he didn't mind the car being small. He said it was a nice car, and he was kinda sad to see it go when it died. I told him I loved Geo Metros and he looked me up and down and then asked why. It was rather funny. I told him that the car is cute, gets good gas mileage, handles well (from what I've heard), and every time I was in one, the ride was smooth.
Then I added, "Well, I'm a small person, so a small car is right for me."
He told me what local car shops are shitty and I thanked him for the insight. Then the bus came. We hopped on and I told him what he needed to do if he was unsure about the correct stop. I said that the drivers are really friendly, and will be willing to help you out. He thanked me as I got off at (what I thought would be) my stop.
Since I had never rode that particular route, I was unsure where to get off, but I only ended up walking 5 blocks to get home instead of 3. No biggie.
It's nice to find something in common to talk about with a stranger every once and awhile. Call it the good sumeritan in me or something. Just don't expect it everyday.
