Travelling and more

May 31, 2002

Right before I was about to drift off into sleepitime, the power suddenly went out! I know this because I had my lamp, air conditioner (for the first time this season), and alarm clock on at the time.

In one sudden loud pop, the A/C turned off and I was left in near-darkness. (It was 5:42am afterall). I know, I know. I was supposed to be sleeping by 4 am, but I couldn't fall asleep while I was out taking MAXINE!! for a walk again. (She's really cool about nighttime walks. The daytime ones have too many noises and distractions for her still).

The first thing I thought was: I hope Mom's power didn't go out because she will be waking up soon. I called her house and she was obviously asleep. Her power was fine. Poor Mom.

I went back to bed and had a hard time falling asleep. There WAS a reason for me to be using the A/C afterall. I can usually tolerate 80 degree weather, no problem, but it was sooooo much hotter than that in my bedroom (no air circulation). I just knew I wouldn't be able to sleep like that. Thus, air conditioning for Carisa, Maxine and little Tierna (even though she's a tad chubby now).

I did finally get to sleep, but I had told Mom to call me at noon to wake me up (since I figured they power wouldn't be restored before I fell asleep so I could reset my alarm). I mention this fact because...

The phone rang and woke me up. I grabbed it as quickly as I could. It was.... (gasp).... a creditor! I hung up in a nanosecond and stumbled back to bed. I realized that the power was now back, so I set the clock (looking at my watch) and set the alarm.

I slept much better knowing my alarm would go off. But when it did, I didn't want to listen. I let it go off until 10 to 1pm (since Mom said she was picking me up at 1:45). I raced to the shower. Made it a quick one, and headed to the answering machine to see that there were THREE new messages.

All of them were Mom wondering if she called the right number (since the default male voice played in her ear instead of my cheesy voice). I called her back. She and I chitchatted about when she would pick me up.

I looked at the clock. It was 1:16pm, but Mom just said she was leaving the office at 1! What?

I told her to get out of there then. She was confused. What was going on?

She then told me that it was only quarter after noon. WHAT?! That means....

Ahh.... that means....

I coulda slept an extra hour instead of running around like a chicken with it's head cut off! Oh my.

Now I sit in the A/C and type, making sure my body cools enough that I can go about doing just that soon. :)

I have to get on the road now. It was nice to update you before I left.
