I thought Maxine would want to pee then afterwards - but no luck either. She held it and held it. I forgot to ask Dad how long it had been since her last potty "adventure."
So we went to Ryan's Dad and Stepmom's house that first night. It was like one of those houses that doesn't look lived in because it's so tidy and HUGE!! So much oak, so many gadgets, so much money it must have been. You know, one of those "I make more money than you, so I'm gonna show off" sorta houses?
But his dad and stepmom were nice. I liked his stepmom more because she laughed at my jokes and gave more insight into Ryan as a child. (His parents split up when he was six, so his stepmom was around for much of his childhood).
Maxine stayed in the laundry room during the stay and Tierna was in our room. (She's cute).
They had two dogs, some breed of collie, and one of them is now deaf. He was a big sucker for getting petted. Well, he would walk from one person to the next to be petted. At one point he was doing this little merry-go-round style ride... very humorous if you were just watching him and not following the conversation.
Heading out of the nice suburban living area, to meet Ryan's mom for breakfast, Maxine had another mishap. During the night, she did NOT, I repeat, did not use the toilet available to her (and her alone).
She couldn't wait while we were on the way to breakfast. She was laying on my Mickey pillowcase (with my head pillow inside) when she decided she wouldn't be seeing another toilet anytime soon. She squatted and peed all over the pillow. Luckily, it didn't get all over the truck. It did get on my jacket sleeve a bit though. It was so smelly and gross and I wasn't able to absorb any of it with anything but a few napkins (we had bought some paper towel early in the first day, but it hadn't been opened yet).
It was a drizzly day, so the ground was wet and I couldn't tell if she had soaked the entire pillow through or if it was just wet from settting it in a rainy parking lot. So, long story somewhat shorter, I ended up pitching my pillow and my awesome Mickey pillowcase.
So sad.
Breakfast/brunch (by the time we got there and cleaned up after the 2nd Maxine incident) was good. A big plate of french toast made me full for quite some time. Ryan's Mom likes to laugh and it seems like she's enjoying life. She's one of those people that probably makes friends real easy.
She ended up telling me some stories from Ryan's childhood - and I thought the stories were much better coming from her. She told them with more enthusiasm than Ryan's stepmom and she also included some reasoning behind why Ryan is the way he is. Neato.
Heading out later than we thought, due to Maxine's 2nd incident, and the following truck passenger seat cleaning ***(More on this 'adventure' if I have time)*** Leaving downtown Minnesota, we headed back on the road. South... and the speed limit was faster... so it made the mile markers seemingly fly by.
Dinner was in Des Moines, Iowa, where I gave Mom a call. It was nice to talk to her again. It still really hasn't hit me about being away from her - and Mikey and Erich and Teek and ... even Dad - but it was nice to actually TALK (for a bit).
Just a little bit ago, we went to a rest area and Maxine finally, finally,
finally went to the bathroom, but not in the toilet -- dammit all Maxine!
She really doesn't like all the noises of those places, or gas stations,
or fast food bathrooms... instead, she poops on Ryan in the car or at the
rest area -- sitting out on the lawn with her. It had been over 50
(FIFTY!) hours since she went last!
Youchie... and then some.
