We're 511 miles from Reno, NV now. We are hoping to make it there for tonight.
Ok... back to the story. We ended up stopping, but she'd freak out because of the noises of vehicles and me screaming about how she needs to piss and we found some gravel area and she could just pretend she's using a litter box. But no... she had to be difficult. (We were pulled off from the freeway quite a ways too!)
So again with Maxine and stress in the car. Damn. So I set up her carrier and put her in it with paper towel. She howled a few times at first and then just meowed when we went around some bendy roads. (At this point, she had probably been holding it for 36 hours - or at least that was the last time she went).
When we ended up at Ryan's aunt's house, I was tired beyond tired. I had been stressed all day from Maxine and how she's been holding it. AND... we arrived at midnight, local time (1 am, central) after a long day of driving and little sleep on my part.
Long day on the road yesterday, but I knew today would be the first day we would be able to sleep in. We were going to go a little longer stint for today (and a short trip the last one) -- okay... well longer today than tomorrow will be. :) Not long, long , long overall. Yesterday was that day.
Done now. *sigh of relief*
Today, Connie (Ryan's aunt - Mom's sister) took us on a walk. We went to see some elk and buffalo that the city/town keeps for some reason or another. It ended up being a little longer of a walk than I was hoping for, seeings as it was a tad hilly to walk and the elevation makes it harder to breath if you aren't used to it. Luckily, my lungs held on good - it's just that I'm so out of shape that the walk seemed longer than it probably was. Very beautiful walk though, seeing the mountains as a backdrop was gorgeous.
While we visited the outdoor animals, we threw some apples and pears (from local trees along the walkway to the enclosures) and their tongues came out to snag the food. One of the pears fell between the two fences and the elk (with a 30 point rack or so) tried and tried to reach it, but his antlers got in the way and he couldn't put his face any closer to the fruit. We got a stick to push it closer. Ryan was operationing the stick to push it within reach. The elk's tongue, at the same time, was seemingly pushing it back to Ryan.
It finally worked out that the pear was within reach, and the elk snatched it up. Yum.
So, today we wanted to wait until Maxine went pee before we headed out. By morning... or morning, to us... she still hadn't gone. Why? Maxine, why? I think all the times that I took her into public restrooms, she didn't like the noises and was more occupied by being scared, than doing her business.
We showered and got dressed and stuff and still no potty :( We went upstairs to eat breakfast/lunch, and then we sat around and gabbed for a bit. Maxine was walking around underfoot and just exploring again when she ran off in a mad dash. Ryan was in the middle of talking, so he missed wacky run.
Well, later Ryan went downstairs for some reason or another - and he came back upstairs cheering that Maxine went pee! Yippee! WTG Maxine! Ahhh... I'm so relieved that she went! It had been over 48 hours at that point. Must I say, Youchie again.
So then it was okay to go for the walk. When we got back, we finished loading the truck, said our good-byes, and are on the road again. I-80 W is our friend.
My impression of Connie and her house, before my pen runs out -- she's nice like her sister (Ryan's Mom) and she seems like someone that gets along with every age group. She's very smart and a good cook. Overall, I liked her :)

Maxine is good in the vehicle when she doesn't have to go potty :)
